Project Budget: $15,000
Project Scope: Two Stage Competition and Design Build (Winner)
Project Description: Teaming with Seth Trance, our early conceptual thinking led us to two conclusions about the site, the user and the opportunity. First, the design should promote engagement between the first person who uses the parklet and the last person who uses the parklet. Second, the design should be changeable and invite users to physically manipulate the structure or skin. A steel spine and wood ribs create the rhythm of the structure as it marches from one end of the site to the other. Between the ribs are a series of fabric panels that overlap. Attached to the ribs with elastic ties, the panels are operable which will allow for the user to manipulate the space. Small plaques allow each visitor to leave their mark on this parklet.
